Why does God send Revival? It is a question that I often think about when I pray for a God sent Revival. Scholars and preachers will agree and disagree on all the reasons why God have sent Revivals in the past and present?
I believe one of the reasons is found in Matthew 9:35-36. We read that Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. He saw the multitudes of people and was moved by their misery. He realized they have no real goals or reason to live wandering like sheep here and there through life, with no sense as to where it all leads and where it all ends. He saw they had no real guides, as sheep without a shepherd. Their only guides were Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes, and rabbis but those were just as lost as the sheep they were attempting to lead. When He saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were helpless.
It is this deep compassion for people that drove him to minister to the crowds, traveling from place to place in Israel. We read of his compassion for harassed and helpless crowds (Matt. 9:36), healing the sick (Matt. 14:14), the four thousand who had not eaten (Matt. 15:32) and the two blind men (Matt. 20:34).
The world is the same today. People are wandering a spiritual wilderness and blindness. Millions of people will perish and die without the hope that Jesus Christ brings and give. Each men and woman in this world is an object of our Fathers heart, concern and love (John 3:16). It was compassion that made Him send His Son to this world. It is compassion, which drove Jesus to minister to the crowds in his earthly ministry. It is also this compassion, which compels Him to send Revival today.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever and wants to visit us, give hope and send Revival. Why does God send Revival? The answer is because of His compassion for us, and those, who is without hope and future.
Jesus was moved with pity for all the stressed and aimless people wandering the face of the earth. Do you have pity and compassion for your friends, your loved ones and your community?
